this painting, William James is inspired by one of the twelve views of the
Grand Canal painted by Canaletto for Joseph Smith, or more precisely by the
engraving made by Antonio Visentini in 1735 after one of these paintings / Dans ce tableau, William James s'inspire de l'une des douze vues du Grand Canal peintes par Canaletto pour Joseph Smith, ou plus précisément de la gravure réalisée par Antonio Visentini en 1735 d'après l'une de ces peintures.
Provenance
Paris Private collection. This painting probably originally came from an English collection as indicated by the English label on the back of the frame attributing the painting to G. Marieschi.
